2010 was a watershed year for Cupids, Canada’s oldest English settlement—it marked the 400th anniversary of its founding by John Guy in 1610. The Cupids Legacy Centre was built to commemorate that event, and to house a state-of-the-art exhibit illuminating the town’s long historical and cultural narrative. Here’s a quick look at what you’ll find inside our doors.
A tour of the museum is an innovative and interactive experience that engages young and old alike. The exhibits are packed with stories, details, and artifacts—the more you look, the more you will discover.

The Cupids Legacy Centre stores the extensive artifact collection discovered at the Cupids Cove Plantation site, and houses its field laboratory. The site, now a Provincial Historic Site, is one of the most significant archaeological digs in North America. The lab holds a vast catalogue—more than 160,000 artifacts have been found, and counting! Learn more about the archaeology laboratory and the archaeology on the Baccalieu Trail.

Upstairs at the Legacy Centre is the 2,000-square-foot Legacy Hall. This fully air-conditioned multi-purpose space is ideal for events and celebrations large and small, as well as conferences, workshops, meetings and symposiums. Take a peek inside to see the gigantic Union Jack flown at the 1910 tri-centennial celebrations of the birth of English Canada in Cupids.
